CET Wasted Food Resources · Philadelphia
CET collaborated with the Philadelphia Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet, the Office of Sustainability, and various local partners—including food rescue organizations, haulers, composters, and food businesses—to foster prevention and recovery activities while uncovering notable local examples. With support from the Claneil Foundation, CET catalyzed efforts to prevent and recover food waste.
To showcase these achievements, CET spearheaded the Food Waste Business Challenge and developed Wasted Food Solutions: Spotlights from Philadelphia, which highlights inspiring examples of commercial entities and institutions reducing and recovering food waste in the city. Additionally, participating businesses partnered directly with us to identify when and how food waste occurs, set goals to address it, and implement comprehensive strategies to reduce, repurpose, and divert wasted food effectively.
EPA Wasted Food Scale
CET actively uses the EPA’s Wasted Food Scale as a guiding tool to help businesses—including restaurants, universities, colleges, event organizers, supermarkets, and churches—take meaningful steps to reduce food waste. To further support these efforts, explore relevant resources and partner organizations that can help your business minimize the environmental impact of wasted food at every stage of the scale.
