Speakers:

The time has come for us to rethink our approach to food waste and implement accessible and innovative solutions to solve this critical issue.

Join the Center for EcoTechnology (CET) on Wednesday, August 30th at 10:00 AM for an online event dedicated to wasted food solutions for businesses and institutions in New York State. During this first event, attendees will gain valuable insights to help tackle food waste effectively and learn about the free assistance that is available to help reach these goals through the Rethink Food Waste NY program.

When food goes uneaten, all the resources (energy, water, materials, money) that are required to produce, process, package, transport, store, and prepare it are wasted as well. This wasted food accounts for at least 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions (4% of U.S. annual emissions). By collaborating and sharing best practices, we can work towards a future where food waste is minimized at its source and no edible food goes to waste.

The presentation on August 30th will focus on two critical strategies on the EPA Food Recovery Hierarchy: food waste prevention and surplus food donation. These strategies offer benefits that go beyond their positive social and environmental impacts. They are practical to implement and can even result in cost savings.

We will hear from two organizations about their efforts to reduce waste and address food insecurity. Goodness Gardens, an herb farm out of New Hampton, will teach us about their effective methods for preventing food waste. Additionally, the University at Buffalo will walk us through its food donation program, which makes a significant difference in the community by directing its surplus food to those in need.

Don’t miss the opportunity to join us in reducing wasted food while unlocking environmental, social, and financial benefits for your organization.
