Your Unplugged Report Card: An Energy Forum and FairThursday, June 246 to 9 p.m. Lenox Town Hall Auditorium Lenox MA The lenox unplugged campaign and the Town of Lenox’s Environmental Committee invite Berkshire County residents to “Your Unplugged Report Card: An Energy Forum and Fair”. The goal of the fair is to help town and county residents become aware of their current energy use, assess the impact of their home and lifestyle, and then use resources from the fair and forum to “improve their energy efficiency grade.” The formal program will begin at 7 p.m. with Mark Sylvia, Director of the Green Communities Division at the Mass Department of Energy Resources, congratulating Lenox for its recently received designation as a Massachusetts “Green Community.” With this accomplishment, Lenox has become eligible for significant funding for energy efficiency measures, large renewable energy projects, and innovative methods that use less fossil fuel. The Town anticipates news of a significant grant from the DOER by the end of June. Guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. William Moomaw, Professor of International Environmental Policy and Director of the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy at the Fletcher School, Tufts University. As many feel helpless in the face of the oil spill, the recent coal mining accident in West Virginia, and the ever increasing economic, social and environmental costs of energy, Dr. Moomaw’s talk, “Going Green in the Berkshires: Renewable Energy and Efficiency for your Sustainable Home,” will offer easy steps that each individual can take personally to mitigate the effects of our energy consumption and save money at the same time. Dr. Moomaw will demonstrate how one can reduce energy used by one’s home and car, and will describe the zero net energy home that his wife and he built recently in Williamstown. Dr. Moomaw and Mr. Sylvia will join a panel of energy experts and professionals from the Berkshires to answer audience questions on energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainability. The panel will also include: Christopher Kilfoyle of Berkshire Photovoltaic Services, a photovoltaic solar expert and local citizen living “off the grid;” Buzz Gray of Berkshire Environmental Design, founding member of the Berkshire County US Green Building Council Chapter and Lenox Resident; and Jim Harwood, LEED AP Architect, USGBC member and Lenox resident. The Energy Fair from 6-9pm will offer information and services at booths from businesses and organizations specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy technology. Participants will go home with a toolbox of resources and information to help increase their energy efficiency and make sustainable living easy and cost-effective. Businesses participating in the fair include Alteris Renewables, Alpine Solar Heat, Berkshire Photovoltaic Services, the Center for Ecological Technology, Berkshire Organics, and Berkshire Grown. To celebrate the Town’s “Green Community” designation and the success of the lenox unplugged campaign, all those in attendance are invited to enjoy free ice cream!!
